Carrie Corden is a care coordinator for a facility with patients. Tori Powers is Pat’s daughter and Power of Attorney. Carrie wants to add Livia Goodheart, Pat’s granddaughter, as a caregiver for Pat so Livia can also help manage Pat’s care and attend his meetings.

Ways to arrive

There are many ways to add a caregiver on the PocketRN platform:

• If you are a patient, on the My Stuff page, select Caregivers and Add a Caregiver.
• If you are a caregiver, on the My Stuff page, select Patients, then select a patient you wish to add a caregiver to.  On that patient’s page, select Caregivers and Add a Caregiver.   You may not see this option if you do not have the appropriate permissions granted by the patient.
• When scheduling a meeting, you will have the option to Add a Caregiver as part of the participant notifications step.  You may not see this option if you do not have the appropriate permissions granted by the patient.

Step-by-step

For this scenario, we’ll be considering the flow from Carrie’s, a care coordinator’s, perspective of adding Anthony Goodheart, a new caregiver for Pat, the patient.

1. Enter the caregiver’s email address and click Next. If this caregiver doesn't have an email, select The caregiver doesn’t have an email and enter the caregiver’s phone number instead.some text
   1. If the email address is already associated with a PocketRN account, you’ll skip the remaining steps and instead send a connection request to the existing account.
   2. This is not true if you enter a phone number.  We assume that individuals may share the same phone number on PocketRN and therefore do not consider it to be a unique identifier for a user.  So, even if there is a PocketRN account with that same phone number, you will not connect with them.
2. Enter the caregiver’s profile information and click Next.  You may optionally add a phone number for them.
3. Choose the permissions this caregiver should have for the patient. Think of what makes sense given the patient’s relationship to the caregiver and the caregiver’s plan for participating in the patient’s care on PocketRN. These permissions can always be adjusted later on the patient’s page.
