PocketRN is the first telehealth startup built specifically for nurses, with a mission to close the gap between home and healthcare by enabling patients in post-acute care to meet virtually with specialized nurses. PocketRN recognizes that nurses are the backbone of healthcare delivery, and we are dedicated to empowering nurses with the option of working flexibly from home while providing expert, quality, and convenient care to patients and caregivers. We have a phenomenal team (ex-Qualtrics, Stanford Healthcare, Intermountain, etc.) and an exceptional investor group of former and current CEOs of top public healthcare companies. We are piloting our platform in partnership with several large health systems across the country. We are looking to grow our team of remote Registered Nurses.

Role

We are seeking a Data Engineer to lead the transformation of our data infrastructure. Currently, our data pipeline relies on Google Sheets and other ad hoc sources. We need your help to migrate our existing workflows into a robust, HIPAA-compliant, partner-governed data pipeline in Google BigQuery within Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This data pipeline will serve as the foundation for an analytical platform that provides partners with reporting on patient activation, visits, compliance, and other activities.

This role offers a unique opportunity to design and implement scalable data solutions from the ground up, directly impacting how PocketRN delivers actionable insights to our healthcare and homecare partners.

Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Migration: Transition existing data sources, ELT (Extract, Transform, Load) pipeline, and dashboards into a centralized, governed BigQuery environment.
  • Data Architecture Design: Establish an enterprise-grade data model that supports multi-partner analytics, ensuring scalability, security, and flexibility.
  • Data Governance & Security: Implement HIPAA-compliant data handling, encryption, and access control measures.
  • ETL Development: Build automated ETL processes for data ingestion, cleaning, and transformation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the customer success, commercial, product engineering and data analytic team members to define data needs and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Reporting & Analytics Enablement: Create optimized data views and tables that enable BI tools and partner reporting.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize query performance and storage costs while maintaining high availability. Though we do not have a significant amount of data nor a need for highly performant queries, we still want to ensure our infrastructure is considerate of long term objectives.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, with expertise in cloud-based data infrastructure.
  • Ideally, a proficiency in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Dataflow. Alternatively, experience in equivalent AWS infrastructure and SQL.
  • Strong experience with data modeling, data governance, and query optimization.
  • Experience with aggregating ad hoc data from multiple sources.
  • Hands-on experience building ETL pipelines using Python or dbt.
  • Ideally, a knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with API integrations for data ingestion from third-party platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a remote-first environment.
  • Ideally, experience with BI tools like Looker, Tableau, or Google Data Studio.
  • Ideally, a background in healthcare data analytics, patient engagement, or telehealth.
  • Knowledge of data observability and monitoring best practices.
  • An appropriate at-home work environment. You should be able to work from home, having a designated quiet and undistracting space with access to reliable internet with >40 Mbps Download speeds.

Benefits

We feel it is essential to invest in benefits that enable our employees to live healthy and full lives, including:

  • Unmatched opportunity for professional development and career growth. We’ll work closely with you to reach your career goals.
  • Ability to work from the comfort and convenience of your home. We are a fully remote company.
  • Generous PTO.
  • Highly competitive health insurance coverage for a startup at our stage.  We also offer vision and dental plans.
  • Significant post-series A equity.

Logistics

As a fully remote company, we look for proactive candidates who excel autonomously. As part of our evaluation process, we will provide you with a prescreening assignment after you apply but before your first interview. This assignment typically takes a few hours to complete, with no set deadline as long as the position remains unfilled. The work you submit will solely be used to assess your candidacy. Although this process may not suit all candidates, we have found it to be the most impactful metric in evaluating candidates. If you have questions about the position or the assignment, we are happy to have a casual discussion over email or Zoom at any time. Upon fulfilling the assessment requirements, you will be guaranteed an interview while the position is open, and we will take your candidacy very seriously.
