AHCCCS American Rescue Plan Program Award in Arizona Leads to Triad of Innovation

Enhancing Home Care through strategic partnerships between Cypress HomeCare Solutions, Nevvon & PocketRN

January 18, 2024

Scottsdale, AZ, January 18, 2024 —(cypresshomecare.com)— Cypress HomeCare Solutions (Cypress), a leading home care company providing quality, individualized and compassionate care to clients aging gracefully at home, announced today that they have been selected as a recipient of the Arizona Healthcare Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) American Rescue Plan (ARP) Program Award.

As a project team, Nevvon, PocketRN and Cypress were awarded $419,210.06 to be used to achieve widespread adoption of a triad solution – services that improve client and provider experiences while also creating health system savings.

Cypress has been known for its innovative solutions in reimagining in-home care solutions to better serve their clients. This funding allows Cypress to continue this mission by bringing value-based care to the Medicaid population.

“Our goal is to keep people where they want to be, in the least cost setting for our federal, state government and for the managed care plans that are managing these dollars for these government agencies,” said Bob Roth, managing partner at Cypress. “ Presently the system is set up for fee-based pay-for-care rather than outcome-based pay/shared savings.”

James Cohen, CEO of Nevvon, expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration, stating, “We at Nevvon are thrilled to be part of this transformative triad with Cypress and PocketRN. Our commitment is to elevate the standard of care through enhanced caregiver training, which is the cornerstone of effective and compassionate care delivery.” Integrating Nevvon’s widely adopted training modules into this project is designed to empower caregivers with the knowledge and skills necessary for providing superior care. Nevvon’s dedication to working closely with all project partners as well as with managed care organizations to rigorously assess and document the outcomes of the joint efforts reflects a shared commitment to driving innovation adoption. Cohen added, “Our focus is not only on delivering better training but also on ensuring these efforts translate into better care for members. The impact of this collaboration will be measured by our collective ability to improve healthcare outcomes and cost efficiencies, demonstrating the tangible benefits of our combined expertise in value-based care.”

PocketRN adds additional support to the program by closing the gap between home and healthcare through empowerment, community, and convenience.

“I am humbled and honored to announce our partnership with AHCCCS Arizona through the American Rescue Plan Grant,” said CEO Jenna Morgenstern-Gaines. “This collaboration empowers us to expand our innovative in-home care model, bringing compassionate and personalized healthcare to even more individuals. Together, we’re not just transforming healthcare; we’re enhancing lives and building a healthier future for our communities.”

Organizations from across Arizona submitted more than 800 applications requesting funding for local, regional, and statewide projects, including projects to support Arizonans living on tribal land. The 61 organizations selected for funding in this round represent every county in Arizona and include habilitation providers, assisted living homes, outpatient clinics, community service agencies, and many other service providers.

“In a strategic move over the past 15 years, we have deliberately transitioned our business model from being predominantly reliant on Arizona Long-Term Care Services (ALTCS) to a more balanced approach, with a focus on private pay clients,” said Roth. “This shift was driven by the increasing challenges we faced in sustaining fee-based care delivery, primarily due to the escalating labor costs and reductions in fees mandated by our State’s Medicaid System (AHCCCS). Once we demonstrate improved outcomes (which we feel like we can), we will shift more of our human capital resources (caregiver and caregiver support) to the ALTCS side of our business.”

AHCCCS has opened a second round of the award program to distribute additional ARP funds in 2024. To find out more about the AHCCCS ARP Program Award, including information on future rounds of funding, visit the award webpage.
